Tuesday, December 30, 2014

I really can not believe how fast 2014 went! I know, I know, every year we say that, but seriously?!

You are probably thinking.... " Haley, thats great, but whats your plan, how are you going to make it different than last year?"

Well movers, let me tell you... You see, I realized a few things about myself this year....

As organized as I mae seem via social media, I definitely have my moments and usually they are because I have WAY to much going on. My brain feels like a million things are flying around and no matter how many planner I have I get paralyzed and then and up accomplishing nothing. This year year I learned to just START. Don't think so much about the process, the way it looks. We spend more time on Pinterest looking for "inspo" that by the time we go to do the project we are bored or tired or we realize how much time we just waisted and we need to move on to another priority. Sound like any of you?

I HIGHLY encourage you all to watch my new video because  lets be honest, it is better to watch than try and read my crazy thoughts :)

Ok, so did that maek things clear? I hope so! Well just like the video promised here are your two printables! (I scaled mine down to fit my A5 Filofaxes)

Give me a Beet!- Healthy Red Velvet Brownies with Protein Frosting

Friday, November 7, 2014

Hopefully you caught on to my hint in the title. If not no worries just take one look at these beautifully colored brownies and take a guess? No there was not any food coloring in these.... give up?

They have red beets in them! Yup! Beets, as in the root vegetable. As in I have lost my mind.
Just kidding :)

So why are beets aMAEzing?!
They contain Immune boosting Vitamin C, Fiber, and essential minerals like Potassium ( important for nerve and muscle function), Manganese ( great for your bones, liver, kidneys and pancreas). They contian cancer fighting properties. They can also boost stamina, fight inflammation, and help your body detox! So after a night out with girls get yourself some beets! ok enough with the facts, lets get to the recipe!

I have seen this concept a few times and thought I needed to give it a try. I just happen to have some Red Velvet Protein from Cellucor and thought I might as well go for it. I have two recipes for you to try. The first is with a lot of specific flavors like the cellucor protein. The second is simpler, with ingredients you probably have.

Serves 16

Ingredients

  • 8oz Red Beet ( peeled )
  • 2 TB Coconut Flour
  • 20g Cookies and Cream My Oatmeal ( ground )
  • 6 oz Almond Milk

  • 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
  • pinch of salt

HomeMAEd Pumpkin Mousse No Crust Cheesecake! High Protein + Low Carb!

Friday, October 24, 2014

Start drooling now! This baby mae just be my all time favorite thing I have maed in a while! It is light and fluffy like pumpkin pie but reminiscent of a cheesecake as well. It is really the best of both worlds. I guess you can have your cake and eat it too ;)

It was really an accident I was going for a cheesecake but ended up with hybrid gem. The great thing about this festive treat is you can take this to your holdiday gatherings and nobody is going to know its healthy! In fact you mae want to maek 2 of them because trust me... people will want more than one slice!

Now with most of my recipes there are many ingredients that you can swap to have it fit your dietary needs. I have been following a macro or flexible dieting plan, so some of the ingredients are not for everybody but I will provide the substitutions for you.

  • 12oz Fat Free Cream Cheese at room temp
  • 6oz Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 4oz Yoplait Light Pumpkin Pie Yogurt ( could sub. with Greek Yogurt )
  • 2 eggs at room temp
  • 3oz Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • 1 scoop Cinnamon Swirl Whey ( Save 40% )
  • 1/2 cup stevia ( adjust to desired sweetness )
  • Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Allspice, Ground Ginger ( to your liking )
  • 1/2 cup Pumpkin Puree
  • 15ml or .5oz Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Creamer ( Totally Optional )
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and with a hand mixer blend for about 2 minutes or until all the lumps are out.
Spray an 8 inch pie dish with coconut oil spray or whatever nonstick spray you have.
Once I pour the ingredients in, I pick up the pan an inch or so off the counter and drop is a few times. This helps break up any air bubble in the mixture.

Now I set my oven at 350F and baked it for about 30 minutes then dropped it to 200F and continued to bake it for 50 minutes. I would say it was a little undercooked but thats what gave it the mousse like texture.

Take it out of the oven and let it sit. Then I always put mine in the freezer for an hour or two before putting it in the fridge.

Are you ready for the killer macros?!

I divided the Cheesecake into 8 slices, but again thats your call.
Calories 103.2
Fat 1.6
Carbs 8.11
Sugar 5
Protein 12.6

You could easily eat two slices with ZERO guilt! I like mine topped with Tru Whip and some Gluten Free Graham Crackers on top!

If you give this recipe a try... which I highly suggest :) I want to see you pics!

Enjoy + TGIF!

Meet our first "Day MAEker" Fashion Designer + Artist, Isabella Rose Taylor!

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

So excited about our first " Day MAEker" posts, where we feature inspiring people and their movements to hopefully inspire you as well! I would like to introduce you to Isabella Rose Taylor, Fashion Designer, Artist and did I mention she is 13?!

Isabella started painting at the age of three and furthered her creative skills with her own clothing line at age 9! Inspired by her art, travels and the world around her, she created first juniors clothing line " Isabella Rose Taylor" which can be purchased at Nordstroms. Not to mention she had her first New York Fashion Week debut this year with her own Runway show! Talk about aMAEzing!

Seeing someone live out their dreams, especially at such a young age is beyond inspiring, so I wanted to see just exactly what gets this mini fashion mogul going!

1. Your the perfect example of what it means to be a "mover" , driven, a go getter, and at such a young age, you are totally inspiring! What influenced you growing up, to pursue art and fashion?

Honestly, I cannot really remember a time where I did not want to create something.  I started painting when I was very young and my love of art parlayed into fashion.  My Mom and Dad have always encouraged me to pursue my passions.

2. What can you tell us about your collection? Where did your inspiration come from and what is your favorite piece?

My Fall 2014 collection was inspired by this idea of “Urban Camper”.  My jumping off point for the collection was a mixed media piece I had made several years ago.  I used it as my color story for the collection as well as a textile.  I also drew the graphic tees.  My favorite piece of the collection is my plaid jacket.  I infused a bit of a tomboy style into the jacket but modernized it with large buttons and cute details like the American flag button on the pocket.

3. Did you have any struggles in the process? How did you over come the challenges?

I love the process part of designing but I do struggle with sourcing fabrics sometimes as well as editing my collections.

4. Besides art and Fashion, what are your other passions or hobbies?

I love to bake!  My sister is actually a pastry chef and I have learned a lot from her.  It is so much fun not to mention delicious :)

5. If you could give 1 piece of advice or motivation to aspiring entrepreneurs what would it be?

To just do !  Just start doing what it is that you love to do, ask for help and find mentors in your community.

6. What fuels you and keeps you going? It could be something  spiritual, sentimental, a quote, etc.

“ And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it”  Paulo Coehlo    This is one of my favorite quotes, I used in my TEDx talk as well.   I think it is very powerful.

7. Currently.... Reading, listening to, watching, wearing…?

I am currently reading textbooks— school is in!    listening to G Eazy, watching Faking It, wearing Rag and Bone jeans, Vans and my Tough Luck tee !

8. Who is your fashion icon for personal style?

for my personal style I really love Nicole Richie.

9. Favorite career moment thus far?

That would have to be having my very first NYFW runway show !!  Still cannot believe that it happened !

10. Whats next? Another line? New art pieces?

More fashion, more art, of course.  I just finished Spring 2015 and am currently finishing up Fall 2015.  I am working on a new series with my art.

11. In 10 years you see yourself....

I would love to be a global brand, expand into accessories to complete my looks and be a mentor and as well as inspire other young entrepreneurs !

It just goes to show you what passion and hard work can do and she MAEd it happen!  Also Isabella has a youtube channel! Be sure to subscribe to her so you can she all she is doing, plus she posts her own style videos!

MAEd It Through- Healing While Hurting

Monday, September 15, 2014

I am starting a new blog post series, in hopes to coordinate with future vlogs. I will sum up my week in a few insta pics and rambles about the things I did, lessons I learned and others things that hopefully can either inspire you or simply put a smile on your face.

Many of you know the past two weeks were undoubtedly the hardest weeks I probably ever endured... emotionally at least. I do not want to say to much because I want this to stay up beat but Jordan lost his dearest friend Chris. It was tragic, unexpected and something that will take a lot of time and faith to heal from. Chris was like family and he was one of the most selfless and caring people I ever met. When you first meet someone, especially as young as he, and they are genuinely interested in getting to know you, they make eye contact with you and smile, you know you are taking to a loving person. Chris was just that and more. I have a hard time getting close to people and he was family from day 1. Situations like this are hard because you are feeling pain yourself but someone you love is hurting even more. I wondered how I was going to not only pick myself up, but I had to be strong for Jordan. I had time to reflect on this past summer with Chris. Nights at the Chesapeake Inn and crazy car rides home, singing as loud as we could. What a blessing it was that we had that time with him. Yes it was cut short but I learned something about friendship. In the midst of the ugly, I saw something beautiful. Never in my life have I met a group of friends stronger than Jordan's. It is truly something you have to witness for yourself. Seeing that kind of love and support coming from men in their twenties is something to admire. They have been through a lot and together they know how to keep each other going.  It made me think about my friend's and how much they mean to me. Loosing them would unbearable.  When one falls another is there to pick the rest back up. We need loving and supportive people in our lives. So I urge you all to tell your friends and family you love them today because in the end they are the ones that matter the most.

Jordan, Chris and Me

It was hard to "feel good" this week, in all honesty. I had to try extremely hard and I made sure to focus  on healing rather than grieving. I did come down with a cold, a nasty one at that which is normal when your entire body is under stress. I wanted to share a few things I learned about how to heal, when hurting is so much easier.

SELF CARE, SELF CARE, SELF CARE
The shock of loss to all of our bodies—emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual—is superb. When we wake in the morning, we question the very nature of who we are. Upon awakening there is a split second when everything is okay in our world.
And then we remember. The storm clouds cover our head again.
Our bodies need to be fed during this time, in order to handle such trauma. Self-care is personal, but I did the things I knew my body wanted: exercise, reading, fresh foods, time with friends and getting out in the sunshine.

                                  ACCEPT WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW
When the pain of loss happens, it’s like a lighting bolt comes and shakes the foundation of the ground. We question everything—our identity, who we are, where we come from, and where we’re going. There is power in surrendering to the unknown. In coming to accept that we no longer have control over what happens to us, we realize that what we once knew we no longer can know. In fact, much of the spiritual experience is coming to realize all that we are not, and less about what we think we are or what we know.
Here, there is great freedom. And it helps us to meet life’s adversity with courage, head-on.

ACCEPT THAT BAD DAYS CAN HAPPEN FOR NO REASON

There are the days, when you are just un-happy. I want to refuse to let it get to me but in all honesty on those days, I just want to be held up at home, watching reality tv and eating sushi. Grief pressures us to go with in. I told my friends, “Bad day. Can’t talk. That’s all.” I didn’t try to force it to be something different, I was honest, maybe a little snappy too.

                                   ALLOW FOR TIME AND SPACE
It takes two years to grieve the loss of a loved one. In human time, that seems like an eternity. There are stages. And each stage brings a remembrance, especially once you start hitting the “year marks.”
Labor day will alway be one of those "dates" and September 11th was the funeral, both well know dates, know with a new remembrance.
ALLOW LIGHT IN THE MIDST OF IT ALL
Although the last two weeks felt like a dark cloud was over us all, there were moments of joy. A great workout, a new business success, seeing family and friends. There were moments I felt great, creative and in my element. Embrace those days and don’t feel guilty. Life is to be lived, because our day will come.

                              ACCEPT THIS TOO SHALL PASS

Like everything else, all suffering will go, until one day it comes again. The greatest thing about death is that it helps us grow up. It matures us. It brings wisdom. It strengthens our bones. It teaches us to let go. We learn we can go through hard times, and with little effort the sun shines again. We can take off our shoes and touch toes to sand and run on the beach, knowing that we made it through. Our happiness never really went away—it still exists inside of us—yet, we are remembering it anew. Fresh, transformed, aliveness engages us again.

Hard times will always be a part of life. They way we choose to handle them can determine a lot. Are you going to let the hard times win? Or will you overcome them? I know this was a little different for me to post such a deep topic, especially it being a monday. I hope you all stay positive with whatever you are going through and remember our own mindset is a powerful tool. MAEk this week Great!

Much Love,
Haley

GorMAE Protein Cheesecake | Low Carb + Low Fat

Friday, August 22, 2014

It is no surprise I LOVE sweets and that is why 90% of my recipes are on the sweeter side. Life should be sweet, even when living a healthy lifestyle and I am sorry but I refuse to live with out cheesecake!

So this fluffy concoction down below gives you everything and more. It is not only spot on with flavor but after a few trial and error attempts I finally found the BEST ration of ingredients to make the perfect cheesecake.... Oh and did I mention you could eat a whole big slice and not feel an ounce of guilt? Actually you could eat 2 slices and still not feel any guilt its that aMAEzing!

This is also so simple you could probably bake it in your sleep.... wait no. Don't try that...

Ingredients

  • 10 oz Fat Free Greek Yogurt
  • 12 oz Fat Fraa Cream Cheese ( room temp )
  • 2 Eggs ( room temp )
  • 1 scoop of Whey Protein ( I use Its About Time Cinnamon Swirl! Get it on sale here! http://goo.gl/tKP0gk )
  • 1/4 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • 2 Dropper fulls of Vanilla Stevia ( you can use powdered as well )
  • 1/4 cup Powdered Stevia
  • Splash of Vanilla Extract
Now here is where you can take full creative license. I also added in Hazelnut Extract. Since I have been making these weekly as a post workout snack, I will be experimenting with different flavors. So keep your eyeballs peeled for those!

You want to preheat your over to 325 F
In a bowl combine all of your ingredients and blend. You could use and mixer, blender or a fork and some good'ol elbow grease for a killer arm workout.

Spray a 6in ( this is the key to a moist fluffy cheesecake! Use a smaller pan! )

Did you notice this is crustless? I will post a few crust recipes soon but we are keeping it simple today.

Pour the mixture into your sprayed pan, drop it on the counter a fe times to get the air bubbles out. Yes just pick it up and drop it. Just a few inches, nothing crazy.
Now i weigh my final mixture because I am counting my macros right now. Mine came out to about 813 g.

Bake for 30 min, then set your oven to 200F and bake for an additional 50 mins.
Once finished let the cheesecake cool, do not cover it, or it will sweat. Nobody like a sweaty cheesecake.

I put mine in the freezer for 30-45 min then the fridge or you could keep it in the fridge overnight, but nobody's got time fo'dat!

Here are the Macros in total.

Cal 733.1
Fat 10.5
Carbs 43.72
Sugar 32.97
Protein 107.83

If you want 8 slices here are the macros per slice. Remember Lactose naturally has sugar, so don't freak out! There is no added sugar!
( 101.6 grams )

Cal 101.6
Fat 1.3
Carbs 5.4
Sugar 4.1
Protein 13.47

You could also do 10 slices.
( 81.3 grams )

Cal 73.9
Fat 1.05
Carbs 4.3
Sugar 3.2
Protein 10.78

Can you get over those macros!
I have been loving these gluten and wheat free graham crackers to break over the top with some Truwhip or a little fat free Redi Whip! Or sometime for breakfast I will put a no added sugar jelly and some Peanut Butter!

.....Breathe....

That is what I am doing this morning. I have not been this still in a long time. For almost 4 months I have been go, go, go. I had a goal in mind. Now mind you it was one of many goals but this one took precedence. To sum it up I was casted for a pretty large, big budget fitness modeling shoot in june and in April I started getting in to high gear because I knew I need to shred some winter weight. I was nervous and excited, because this was the most "real" modeling gig I had ever received. So for 4 months I trained 2 times per day... usually and even completely changed my diet in the last month before the shoot, which was pushed to August. If you have a strict diet to begin with, then you understand the anxiety associated with doing a 360 with it.

From the end of june until now I had lost about 12 pounds. To keep it simple, when 4-5 pounds of that is pure fat, that's a lot in a short amount of time. I measure every single thing I eat on a scale. I bring it restaurants, I had it on the plane to California, heck I even was measuring in between WOD's at the Crossfit Games. Needless to say there was NOTHING that was going to stop me because in the back of my mind it was all worth it because I was going to look great for this shoot.

This week was official crunch time. I had until Saturday to deplete. So hello 73g of carbs per day. Yes... Vegetables count....
To be the proactive professional that I at least try to be I emailed the art director and photographer once more to double check on times and locations.

Then I sat there. I breathed. I kept breathing.... surprisingly. Dad came into the kitchen.
"Hale?"

Cue Crocodile tears.

I sobbed... Like a baby. " But I worked so hard!!!!"

Dad just hugged me and said how sorry he was, trying to be as comforting as he could. I felt like my heart had been ripped out... Oh I guess I should mention, the shoot was off. Done. Not happening. For me and the other models anyways. The brand panicked and went through an agency for models instead of using the real life athletes they had already hired, two days before the shoot. MAEjor Blow.

I was devastated. The time, commitment and not to mention money I had put into this seemed pointless.... for about a millisecond. Then my inner self, slapped my human nature self across the face and said this...

No Haley. It was not pointless, not even a little bit.  You killed it for months, you were unhappy with yourself this past year, you needed this either way. You came out stronger and more confident. You had the opportunity and privilege of training with an amazing coach. Your family supported you 110% and are proud either way. My personal fave----> You can be an example for other girls, to achieve their goals no matter what they are and show that girls are fierce and strong. You are a force to reckoned with and we feel bad for who ever gets in your way.

Yup thats what I told myself, well it was something like that at least .
Situations do not always work in our favor or we may not always see them as working in our favor but in all honesty I did not lose much. I have my health, my family, my drive and there will always be more opportunities. If anything I am more determined to continue the path I was on with my training and prep and bring it even better in the near future.

You have three choices when you re let down. You can let the outcome define you, destroy you or you can let it strengthen you.

I am choosing to let let it strengthen me. Rather than wast my energy feeling sorry for myself I will rise above it and attack today.

No one can stop you. Keep going. Ride the wave. Climb the mountain. You are aMAEzing.

Love,

Haley
